Lacey Fire District Fire Chief Jim Broman has announced his plans to retire from the District. The bittersweet move will allow the Chief the time and opportunity to pursue projects and interests developed from more than 45 years in the fire service.

Chief Broman has been with Lacey Fire District for 22 years, and has seen the District grow from a small, rural agency to the busiest fire service agency in Thurston County. Services have moved from mobile homes surrounding fire engine garages to modern stations with multiple apparatus bays, living quarters with emergency alerting from dispatch, and equipment maintenance and repair spaces.

In recent years, the Chief has presided over the annexation of the City of Lacey into the Fire District, the expansion of the Board of Fire Commissioners from three to five, leveraging of federal grant money to hire firefighters, recruit volunteers, and procure equipment, and improving advanced life support services in the District through the addition of a halftime medic unit.
